Metallic Materials: Defects Analysis
Find out what a failure analysis can provide you, from the determination of the failure mechanisms and their root causes, to the evaluation of the potential recurrence of the event and definition of improvement solutions.
Topics covered during the presentation:
- Objectives of a failure analysis
- Approach and precautions in failure analysis
- Overview of different failure types in fracture, wear and corrosion
- Case study to illustrate the findings of a failure analysis
Date:
TBA
Time:
15:30 to 17:00 (GMT +8), Singapore time
Topics covered during the presentation:
Features presented from case studies:
- Context
- Ageing of equipment
- Proof of fatigue strength of steel structures in Europe: Eurocodes
- Crane design, residual life of cranes and related Rules and Standards
- Pressure vessels and boilers
- Cetim’s general methodology for evaluation of Residual Life
- Some industrial examples
- Questions answers
Speakers
The webinar will be presented by our French expert Ms Hélène Morillot (mechanical engineer specialized in the failure analysis of metallic materials). She is a failure analysis engineer of CETIM (Technical Institute of the French mechanical industry).
Hélène MORILLOT
Failure analysis of simple parts or complex systems that exhibit cracks or mechanical failures:
- Preliminary investigation, with, if needed, expertise on site
- Selection of the adequate analysis program depending on the context and desired objectives
- Morphological analysis to determine the failure mechanisms
- Metallurgical analyses to check the material quality and its compliance with the specifications
- Conclusions on the possible scenario of the failure, with determination of the root causes<.li>
- Notice on the potential risk of other similar failures occurrence on existing systems
- Proposal of improvement options to avoid this type of failure to happen again
Profile
