KISSsoft Gear Pair Calculation

The main objective of this introductory training is to provide the basic handling and understanding of the KISSsoft program and the user interface teaching participants on the data entry and the calculation possibilities in order to operate and apply the software correctly and efficiently in the design process. The training focuses on cylindrical gears.

Objectives:

With the help of prepared exercises, participants will learn how to find correct fields to enter the data for the calculation, how to handle different tabs and settings, and how to get the results from the calculations.

Pre-requisites

You will need a notebook to actively participate in the training. Before the start of the training, participants will receive an actual test version Release 2022.

Pedagogical means:

Teaching method alternating theory and practice through case studies or works directed.

Who should attend:

This basic training is targeting engineers who are new users of KISSsoft or who do not use the KISSsoft program so often.

COURSE OUTLINE (1 day)

  • Gear generalities (short history, applications, types, general kinematics and dynamics, basic gear law, standards)
  • Basic concepts and geometry of involute gears.
  • Spur and helical gears.
    • Tooth form (external and internal gears)
    • Reference profile and tool geometry.
    • Resistance to contact pressure SH and tooth rupture SF (ISO 6336)
  • Kinematic meshing (path of contact, specific sliding, profile shift, loading of gear tooth, tooth modification (profile and helix).
  • Overview of gears on KISSsoft
    • Cylindrical gears: Gear pair, Pinion with rack, Planetary gears, Three gears train, Bevel gears, Worm gears.
  • Calculation of gears on KISSsoft
    • Gear pair meshing and calculations
    • Case studies on cylindrical gears
  • Questions / answers.

Robert SHANDRO

Principal Consultant - Engineering & Material Science specialized in Failure Analysis, Forensic Investigation and Mechanical Power Transmission components.
More than 30 years of consulting experience in industries including Aerospace, Energy, Transportation, Shipbuilding and Public Works.
Member of French delegation for ISO TC60 (Technical Committee), Expert in load capacity calculation, quality of materials and failure analysis for gears.
Member of IES (Institute of Engineers Singapore).
