Pressure Vessels

Pressure vessels are containers or vessels used for containing a substance under pressure, and include boilers, reboilers, heat exchangers, steam/air receivers, deaerators, reactor drums and gas cylinders.

As pressure vessels can be subjected to high or varying pressure and media that may become corrosive from improper control or upset of the service environment, they are exposed to many potential damage mechanisms. Depending on the service environment and material, these may include corrosion, pitting, fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, stress relaxation cracking and hydrogen embrittlement.

Due to the myriads of damage mechanisms that can affect pressure vessels, it is essential to identify and understand the potential mechanism(s) when conducting material selection, root-cause failure analysis, risk-based inspection and remaining life assessment.

Our Expertise:

We are a MoM-certified third-party inspection body for pressure vessels. We are actively involved in asset integrity management (AIM) services for the oil and gas, petrochemical and power generating industries. We have assisted many companies in the application for Corporate Level Approval (CLA) and extension of statutory inspection in accordance with the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) guidelines.

When it comes to failure analysis, we probably have the largest archive of failure analysis case studies on pressure vessels and associated components in this region, having served the major companies of the afore-mentioned industries for more than 30 years.

Our Services:

  • Technical assessment of plant facilities for extension of service lives and statutory inspection
  • Risk-based inspection, remaining life and fitness-for-service assessments
  • NDT including in-situ metallographic replication, acoustic emission (AE), positive material identification (PMI), remote visual inspection, IRIS (customized to access narrow bend areas)
  • Failure analysis to establish root cause of failure
  • Recommendations on materials selection, inspection and repair solutions
  • Expert witness for litigation and/or insurance claim cases
