Efficient and validated costing software for manufactured parts

Detailed description:

KISSsoft software

KISSsoft® is a modular calculation program for the design, optimization and verification of machine elements according to international standards. The individually customized software packages for a wide variety of applications guarantee tailor-made solutions and the integration to all common CAD software complete the product.

KISSsoft for which Industries

The KISSsoft and KISSsys calculation programs are very comprehensive. Due to the modular structure, it can be used in a wide range of areas: Industrial gearboxes, vehicle construction, bearing and gear manufacturing, precision mechanics, plastics, turbo gearbox manufacturing, wind power, ship-building and further specialist areas.

  • Gears

The gear calculation covers all common types: cylindrical, bevel, worm, crossed helical, hypoid, and face gears. In addition to calculations based on standards ISO, DIN, AGMA, VDI, etc., numerous sizing and optimization tools are offered, as well as methods that go beyond the standards.

  • Shafts and Bearings

The shaft and bearing calculation is fully integrated in KISSsoft®. Among other things, shaft strengths and rating life of bearings are calculated optionally considering internal geometry (ISO TS 16281). The calculation can include several coaxial shafts and their connecting bearings. Torsion and bending-critical Eigen frequencies of the shafts are determined.

SCOPE OF APPLICATIONS

Input data:

  • 3D CAD file or blue print import
  • Gross milling profile: internal and external
  • Material definition and quantity specification
  • Automatic recognition of the milling processes

Results:

  • Proposal for an operating machining process
  • Cost and time estimate of the proposed process

Use modifications:

  • Manual modification of the process, additional users’ data
  • Shaft-Hub Connections

When calculating the shaft-hub connections, the system checks whether a connection is valid and whether the pressures occurring remain below the permissible material characteristic values. All calculation modules offer sizing functions for the strength-relevant geometric dimensions and the maximum transmittable torque.

KISSsys

KISSsys® is the system add-on to KISSsoft® which enables the user to design entire transmissions. The analysis is performed simultaneously for all gears, shafts and bearings. With KISSsys®, any kinematics can be calculated and, thanks to the integrated programming language, your own calculation processes and designs can be implemented.

  • GPK

GPK is a gear calculation package which provides designers with standard base models that they can then use to calculate their own drives. Since GPK enables designers to access all the functions in the KISSsoft installation, it is ideally suited for use with standard kinematics, such as industrial gearboxes.

  • KISSsysWeb

The KISSsys calculation module has an extension called KISSsysWeb which supports sales departments when they evaluate gearboxes according to customer-specific conditions. Using KISSsysWeb, salespersons can access gearbox models when they are at the customer’s site. Customer-specific operating data can be input directly in its simplified web interface, to verify every aspect of gearboxes. Existing gearboxes can be analysed more quickly, and appropriate gearboxes are selected more efficiently.

  • Gearbox Variant Generator

The KISSsys gearbox variant generator not only sizes gearboxes automatically but also vary the number of gear stages and gear dimensions, while taking the bearing design into account. Simply enter the required overall transmission ratio: the generator then calculates all possible gearboxes which have the predefined load and required safeties. The gearbox variants can then be evaluated according to a multitude of criteria such as total weight, cost or available installation space.

  • KISSsys Efficiency Calculation

Calculating the efficiency in KISSsys enables the power loss and thermal rating to be evaluated for the entire drive train. The calculation is performed according to ISO/TR 14179, which provides a good basis for calculating power loss and heat dissipation. The many extra features in KISSsys, such as functions for precisely calculating power loss (for rolling bearings, bevel gears etc.), or for defining your own correction factors, predefining torque over time, and a multitude of different evaluation types, round off the calculations available in KISSsys, which reflect real life applications.

  • KISSsys Modal Analysis

With KISSsys, you can analyse drive train Eigen frequencies. This function evaluates the drive train with coupled vibrations, in which the Eigen modes are transmitted via the meshing or the connecting rolling bearings within the shaft system. Torsional, bending and axial vibrations can also be taken into account if required. The Eigen frequencies are then output as the result. A 3D animation clearly shows which Eigen modes is dominant, and from which component it originates.

  • KISSsys Housing Deformation

When a housing deforms under load, it also displaces the bearings and shafts. In housing designs that are particularly at risk of this effect, it can also affect meshing alignment. With the reduced stiffness matrix, KISSsys can determine housing deformations on the basis of the current bearing forces. The gear contact analysis function can then be used to check and optimize the load distribution while taking the housing displacement into account.

  • KISSsys Reliability

The KISSsys reliability calculation is an effective way of evaluating every aspect of the drive train for all gears, shafts and rolling bearings. It is a convenient method for comparing different drive unit designs with each other. Weibull shape parameters and the failure free time coefficient can be configured for the reliability calculation.
