The purpose of the Cetim Academy training course “Failure analysis” (M13) is to methodically analyse damage to plastic, polymer or composite parts from the preliminary investigation stage. More specifically, during the course trainees learn how to apply the failure analysis approach, list the various failure assumptions based on the collected information, identify the resources used in this area, list the main tools (techniques) used for the failure analysis of polymer and composite parts and interpret the characteristic events that are visible on the fracture surface of polymer-based parts.
The programme for this module, which is based on real case studies, begins with a general presentation of materials and processes, followed by a closer look at the methodology to determine the causes of failure using the non-destructive testing principles and applications in connection with an expert investigation as well as the fractography of polymers and composites. The options offered by physical-chemical, mechanical and computational (mechanical analysis) characterisation methods are also presented. This training course is intended for quality control or manufacturing technicians and engineers. It is available as an in-company course and can be offered in English.
